Hit and Run

When i was younger I used to read these bookworm books, aside from others. In one of the stories, Sam Seng was cycling down a slope when he spotted some animal and then he braked to avoid crashing into it. As a result, he was thrown off his bike and fractured his arm. I remembered thinking, how is that possible? How does braking throw u off the bike? Is the inertia that strong? Well i found out for myself today.

I was rounding a sharp corner when all of sudden I came face to face with the satay man on his bike. Deja vu! Earlier this year I had a similar sordid encounter with a China woman, which left such a bitter taste no one that wasnt involved has known about it till today. That incident told me that I would not crash at all costs, even at the expense of personal injury. Plus, it isnt very smart to crash into the satay man. That marks you for reprisals from the ice-cream man, the hot dog man, and generally the entire neighbourhood.

So i braked really hard, and then I was airborne for a few split seconds. Luckily, I hadnt been going so fast, so I simply plonked back down onto the seat real hard. My bike wasnt so lucky, having to absorb the impact of my fall and then crash into a nearby parked car. The chain fell out and part of it got jammed. Anyway i guess it was largely my fault a near miss happened (again), but when i looked at the satay man he started apologising, probably because my default look is the my-misery-is-all-because-of-you look.

Anyway, that sums up my first hit and run, where the hitter got damaged instead of the hittee.
