Dust

I just finished reading 'Northern Lights', more well-known as 'The Golden Compass' in less than 24 hours. When I first starting reading, I just couldnt stop! A magical world of daemons, Dust, totally cool Gyptians and 12 year old girls saving the multiverse without knowning it.

There was some pretty good storytelling in there, introducing characters or factions gradually and then bringing everything together in a climax. However, as the story went on, I got a little disappointed. Well, every story has a message, and in order to state his message clearly, i felt that the writer sacrificed part of the story to do so, much like Narnia, which he was so critical of. For the record, I did find Narnia racist too.

Yea, anyway for me the story just got abit too incredible, maybe things just went too nicely all the time, or was it the Fates at work? I shouldnt judge till I have completed the trilogy i guess.

Still, I am glad i got this book as a present. After the Star Wars Universe, Dream and Faerie, I thought I had seen it all. I wonder how long the movie will be, for there were an awful lot of twists in the book...
