Politics is indeed a dirty word. i wiki-ed the late JBJ to learn more about him, and this caught my eye.
Two months after his 1984 re-election, he was charged for allegedly mis-stating his party accounts.
In 1986, a district court found him innocent of all charges but one; the prosecution appealed and the Chief Justice ordered a retrial in a district court. At the retrial, Jeyaretnam was declared guilty on all charges.
Fishy is an understatement
He was disbarred as a result and later appealed to the Privy Council in Britain. They not only reinstated him as a lawyer, but called the whole affair "a grievous injustice". The right of appeal to the Privy Council was severely restricted by a change in the law the following year.
i think if you want to see a race between two athletes, you would want to see who comes in first, rather than having one contestant having his leg lopped off and the other winning by default?
Anyway i saw the condolence letters sent by two local politicians and felt like i hadnt read a condolence letter at all. One simply wrote about what a gracious, generous, gentleman he (the writer) was, and the other talked about how they had shared some times together and so if the people loved JBJ, they should support him (the writer) too.
Still on the same topic, i was drawn to watch Tina Fey parody Sarah Palin because 30Rock well, rocks. It was funny, until CNBC showed that one part of the interview parody actually quoted SP word for word. If people can find that funny, something is seriously wrong. Isnt it scary that someone who is unable to comment intelligibly on foreign policy, the bailout or name any newspapers/journals when she claims to be widely read might become the next VP (or even the President according to Matt Damon) of the USA?
