Intelligence Squared

Recently watched an episode of Intelligence Squared on tv and found it extremely fascinating. Once i realized what it was about, i had to watch it till the end. Basically, it is like a debate where two or three speakers come out and argue for or against the motion. What sets it apart is that these are famous people, putting their reputations on the line. Not only do they argue against each other, they have to fend off attacks from the floor as well.

The topic that day was "The Catholic church is a force for good in the world". Speakers included the Archbishop of Nigeria, an English Conservative Minister, Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry. And the speakers did not disappoint, i mean, they were really good, all of them, and whats more they still managed to retain some form of respect for one another.

I would really like to see this here, be in the form of live political debate or anything. This would certainly make voting more meaningful, if we ever get to vote.

Another interesting part of the show was that they polled the audience before and after the debate to see how their opinions changed. Of course, it doesnt show which side is right or wrong nor is it hardly representative of the general population, but still it's nice to know. For the record, The opposition totally mopped the floor with the proposition.
