Sales

This is one of a total of three video clips found online where Pastor Rony Tan of Lighthouse Evangelism puts down Buddhism.

I just want to say that the first guy (not in this video), whose name i forgot, makes a strong case for teaching critical thinking in secondary schools, because throughout the interview, he displays the complete lack of an independent mind and is just led about by Mr Tan like a little kid.

As for Mr Tan, he should be glad he does not believe in karma, because he would have accumulated alot of the bad kind. As a pastor, a spiritual leader of people, he has a responsibility to them to teach them properly and should know better than to make insensitive comments like he did. This is how religious wars are started.

According to wikipedia, he has a following of over 12000 people here. Thats pretty amazing, and again makes the case for teaching critical thinking early on in life. Here is someone who relies more on presentation and cheap tricks than substance (check out his other videos and magazines) and yet he can summon such a large following. Truth be told, most religious leaders like to speak slowly and clearly in a deep tone to make it seem like they are in control, they know what they are talking about and can solve all your problems for you, whether they really are able to or not. To me, this guy comes across as very artificial and unnatural. There are numerous occasions in the videos where he makes a punchline/guesture and the audience does not respond at all. Towards the end, i was even able to predict what he was going to do/say in response to the person he was interviewing.

I once read that selling religion is great, because you are able to sell to others even when you have nothing to sell at all. No inventory, no start up, and yet people will still pay. If 12000 people can be so easily sold, i think i definitely have a shot of entering the market as well.
