work is less hectic at the moment but there is always that tsunami looming on the horizon, ready to crash down on you at any moment.
anyhow, have been randomly reading up on the deeper stuff these few days and actually i have only become more confused. In particular, this io9 article made me wonder about the many assumptions we make about our own existence.
There are many interesting points brought up which are actually inter-related, to this thing called our "consciousness". Our consciousness tells (or receives?) information from our brain, which process all sorts of external stimuli. Being unique, the same stimuli gets interpreted differently and hence leading to the question on whether we can experience anything objectively. On a more scientific level, different people perceive the same colour differently, though this too, is relative to a relative perception of colours (see how confusing it gets?). On a more macro/distorted level, people can go through the same experience together and come away with different take-aways (this is my own interpretation but it makes sense to me).
Still on the consciousness, it is what is seperates us from most other things on this planet, that makes us special. Which leads to the question of why we exist, as a species, or on a wider scale, why does anything exist?
To make things more confusing, our consciousness is how we experience time, where we experience a unidirectional flow of time. The past receds into the distance, while the future is full of possibilities. However, in physics, or at least on the quantum level, this is not true and all possibilities exist together simultaneously, until we measure it and it collapses into our definition of reality. Therefore, does time exist in the absence of consciousness? i try to read more but i realize i just dont understand it (too impatient and too stupid).
anyhow, all this simply leads me to realize how small we are in the big scheme of things, and how limited our knowledge is. on a more personal level, it can be fascinating how different and unique people can be, but in my work, it can really get on your nerves.
