a quick look around and i realize that 10 years on, i seem to be the only one still blogging. alot more infrequently of course, but still here, while most other blogs have gone dormant. perhaps i havent grown up, perhaps still too introverted, so still coming back here, after all this while.
in recent months i have taken a keener interest in the running of the country, and the people's views on how the country is being run. part of the job too i guess. what i have noticed is that there are so many voices out there, and all of them are saying different things. sometimes i find it frustrating, but my boss says, a diversity of views is to be celebrated.
i guess its true when the views are constructive. but when i look at both sides of the camp, however, i tend to dismayed. both tend towards the extreme, away from the middle ground. they delve into name calling, refusing objectivity and resorting to petty squabbles. the way forward is constructive, respectful dialogue, and i need to emphasize this, not selling sensational headlines, pretty graphics that have startlingly zero logic behind it. this is really something that i look down on, not only because it is simply poison, but i guess it also goes against my character.
unfortunately, people tend to view things with just one lens. this party sucks, mine is the best. they are out to cheat you, vote them out (or dont vote them in). when in reality, everyone is flawed but has redeeming points.
when it comes to this, although the PAP government has suffered many setbacks in recent years, be it in transport or population, they still have one shining star in DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam. the guy is simply brilliant, and i am not just talking about how shiny his head is. some people just have the ability to sort out everything nicely in their head, have a vision of what it should be and how to get there, and DPM Tharman is one of those guys. (he is also a very nice person, which is a big plus)
you just have to read about his vision for Singapore in 20 years to get an idea of what he is trying to achieve, and it will make you want in. Or how about catching him speak in person, on CNA's Ask the Finance Minister. The panel, i must say, was too weak and the lady doctor was just swooning over him. DPM was actually the one who provided the most balanced view in the entire room.
ok, i digress, but its good to know that amid that this chaos online, there is someone at the top, until the next election at least , who knows what he is doing.
perhaps then, i will still be blogging too. ha!
