the epic saga

there is no doubt in my mind that we are in the middle of an epic crisis/saga, whatever you want to call it.  and at the end of the day's i would have to say that it is the government's fault.  not that it is indeed cheating people's money, and (ahem) misappropriating funds, but that it is a comms failure through and through.  on one hand, yes, policies are difficult to communicate, but my own view is that people now so have little knowledge that they are angry for the wrong reasons, and that basically sums up my frustration.

there is talk of the need to move onto deeper and more critical (and more intellectual) issues, but if there is no buy-in for the basis, there will be no moving at all.  in my view, more education definitely has to be (and should have been) done.

public discourse is definitely a good thing.  public pressure accelerates change.  unreasonable pressure however, leads to unreasonable reaction, and worse still, rushed decisions and policies that we may live to regret.

for sure the current system is not perfect.  improvements can and should be made. it is easy to point of flaws of course, but it is harder to find the right solutions.  this is an important point, because without understanding the necessary trade-offs, one cannot have the right appreciation of where we are at now. definitely there is room for improvement, but we are also not in as bad a shape as some would make us out to be.  at the very least, anyone making criticism should understand this.  it forms the basis of constructive, balanced conversation.

it is funny how life works of course.  changes are afoot.  changes i never thought i would see in my lifetime.  i hope it happens.

its funny because i am just a bystander in it all.  i have a very good view of course.  but i am just a spectator in the front row, watching stevie G either score in the last minute to win the FA Cup, or slip at half-time and concede the title.  in my mind i am already dreaming of writing a book on this - the epic crisis/saga, and how it defined the course of a nation for years to come.
