Different people, being brought up differently, have different pre-conceptions and prejudices. Hence, they will interpret the same action differently. Why i am talking funny is because i experienced this first hand today.
My P4 form teacher called it 'gazing at the whiteboard with far-away eyes', but not everyone is like Mrs Wong. I was stoning on the train today when the auntie in front of me actually offered me her seat (!!!). Apparently, stoning (i call it 'staring blankly into space') was interpreted as 'a glare filled with utmost malice and poison', so much so that she felt pressured into giving up her seat. I declined, much to her confusion. She must have thought i was playing mind games or something.
Maybe trains just make people jumpy. Being overcrowded and all. I will never forget that time the three of us were lugging our black duffel bags onto the train (at the first stop of the line). This elderly gentlemen took one look and promptly alighted at once.
