Snow White Queen

I saw her again

i had seen her a few times since the first time we met, sitting by the water's edge, cutting a lonesome figure. Today, i decided, was the day to approach her. A voice in my head immediately objected, saying that it was time to go home. But there was no one at home, and the only other thing to do was to study, which wasnt very appealing. Most lost causes arent.

Today, i told myself firmly. but not now. The others were still drifting off home, and i didnt want anyone i knew to see me. So i decided to pedal one round around the park and come back later.

She was not pretty, no. She had one of those common, easily forgettable faces. Plus, i was never good with faces. The only way i recognised her was by her black coat, and that pendant she wore. But still, i wanted to get to know her better. Maybe it was the way she stared out at the water, or maybe how she carried herself. I knew she didnt have a proper home, but her coat was still as sleek as it was the first time i saw her. And she had such a regal air around her, i suspect somewhere up the family tree, one of her ancestors must have been royalty.

Pedaling leisurely to cool down, i wondered what if she was gone when i returned. True enough, when i came back, no one was in sight. Feeling slightly disheartened, i dismounted and pushed my bike, walking slowly along the river bank. And there she was, walking aimlessly in my direction. I didnt know what to do, so i just walked up and said 'hullo'

She didnt say anything, only staring at me, sizing me up. Then she suddenly sat down by the water, settling down into that all familiar posture i had seen previously. I stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to do. Moments passed. 'Do u remember me?'

Once again, no reply. but she got up and circled around me, pressing her body against mine. A sound of satisfaction, and then she sat down again. I sat down beside her this time, admiring the pendant on her chest. It was like a gem stone, glittering in the moonlight and outshining the dancing stars on the water. 'Pendant. Thats your name right?' She stared at me, then with the slightest nod of acknowledgment, she turned her head to face the water again.

We sat there in silence for the next few minutes, before i decided it was time to go. 'Goodbye Pendant, i'll see you again' i promised. She purred in reply and i waved goodbye to my first feline friend.
