Silent Night

Isnt it odd that during Christmas, there are so many carols about the birth of Christ? After all, it is estimated that the historical Jesus was born in Spring. Hence if you celebrate the birth of a savior at this time, it would actually be that of a pagan god, like Attis, Dionysus or Mithra.

Religion, being catered to Men, has to evolve in order to remain relevant to the masses. This means distortion of the original form, absorption of other current religions in order to become/remain dominant and ensure survival, as seen in Christianity absorbing elements of Mithraism, or Buddhism and Taoism borrowing practices/notable figures from each other.

Another way of ensuring survival would be to become organized, to pool your resources together. Having a large unified presence also makes it easier to spread the word and facilitate recruitment.

On the downside, such religious institutions become a divine embassy on Earth and seemingly can do no wrong, even when declaring holy wars on other faiths. On a lesser, more common scale, there is corruption and sexual harassment. Putting the power meant for God(s) into mortal hands is just asking for trouble, since no one would be able to handle that kind of power.

That said, Christmas is still a holiday season for relaxing and spending time with the family.
Happy Holidays =)
