Peace

"jurong island is so beautiful at night!" and everyone would nod and agree and go "ooh" and "aah" and even whip out their camera phones. that was something i could never feel, because to me, the multiple dim orange glows with the smoke belching in the background simply reminds me of mount doom instead of some Christmas-like scene.

perhaps something closer to total darkness, only seeing the silhouettes of leaves and branches framed by the crescent moon. And behind them, the stars, so many of them i couldnt take them all in. With a gentle breeze and surrounded by the call of nature (not the same as nature's call), buzzards, cicadas, frogs and the occassional bird. times like these, are beyond description.

one must really step out, before we can remind ourselves just how minuscule we are, in the big scheme of things. All our problems and worries (and happiness) dont even cause a tickle in the world outside. Even as a civilisation we hardly matter. As George Carlin (bless his soul) said, to planet Earth, we are probably just a bad case of fleas. Sure, we cause some minor irritation, but only for a while. Before long, we would have killed off ourselves and the world goes back to how it used to be, in a few thousand years or so. Which hardly compare to the billions of years the Earth has been around.

i recall that some people said, all the natural disasters and new viruses/epidemics coming around are the work of God, to punish the sinners on Earth. i'd prefer to agree with Mr Carlin, that its rather the work of Gaia, to rid herself of these pesky irritants screwing up her home. Just seems more likely that way.
