a grand total of 3 exam based modules, all conducted by sectional teaching. of these, 2 of the lecturers try to engage the students in the learning process. unfortunately, the only way students would participate actively is if points are awarded for class participation, and in this case they are not.
i wonder, why we are so reluctant to do so? For me, i do not know the answers to the questions (sigh) for one of the modules, and for the other i am just too unsure if i understood the question correctly, hence afraid that i will answer wrongly. I guess that would be the general reason; but this would be the product of our education system, where we are so afraid to be wrong in front of our peers. And of course if these students go on to be leaders, we get leaders who refuse to admit that they screwed up.
Anyway, i feel bad for the teachers, simply because i know how it is to face an unresponsive class. I'd better begin volunteering my responses (be they right or wrong) to accumulate some karma in case i ever end up teaching.

u dun haf to noe answer to ask qns, in fact, if u dunno the qns or topic, all the more u shd ask qn..
i used to be "problematic" student, with tons of qns and nv seems to be satisfied with the response.. rem the time when i challenged the TAs on their solutions..
but well, one reason or another, i'm more reserved and "tame" nowadays.. haha..
