bimbang the waiter

i have never seen myself as a waiter, for too many reasons to list. but since it was a girl pleading with me, plus i had nothing to do (at that time), i reluctantly said yes. and luck was on my side, cos i ended up serving a bunch of p6 kids and it was really fun. the experience as a whole was truly eye opening, so i am really glad i said yes.

even though i wrote all that crap yesterday about change, i obviously still hadnt because i was the same old dao me at the agency, until this guy jj came forward and introduced himself. there is seriously no better environment to meet strangers so i have to take these kind of chances and learn to be more like that guy!

back to the job.. i really wanted to see the kitchen after reading the stuff Bourdain wrote. but it was nothing like that at all, the kitchen was really quiet, and the only sounds were the occasional clink of cutlery. very disappointing in that aspect, and it made me glad i wasnt working in the kitchen.

the restaurant itself really reminded me of army. to me, it felt like a warren of mini fiefdoms and kingdoms, where everyone is killing and yet helping one another, warring over what little power there is to fight over. Hey, dont steal my plates. Oi, this is my table! Boy, why you take my peanuts! If i see you have more than 3 jugs at your table i'm going to ba your mao! (whatever that really means..)

another thing to the army bit? the people at the bottom can be really really slack. that boy wants more peanuts? hes only a kid, dont care! lol. but there are also the really garang ones that go the extra mile and even do OT till the next morning.

it is also a job with alot of autonomy and minimal supervision, for that day anyway. so it is really possible to slink off somewhere, or go to work hungry and enjoy an 8 course meal while working, which is really cool right. air con environment somemore.

on the whole i give myself 7/10 because of the peanut incident and because i should have chatted with the kids more. so cute!!
