Groundhog Day

thanks to fy for the invite and to wq for going with me! its really an interesting film because its kind of multi dimensional in the sense that if u want to watch a brainless show, you got it, but if you are looking for something to think about, then you've got that too! sweet.

the dude said, different religions lay claim to the film and its understandable because the show is simply about someone transforming into a better person, and if you go down into the roots of it all, that is what religion is, or should be all about.

and thats why i think religion or rather spirituality is really important. it fills up a part of your life that others cannot. and for me, it is something to fall back on. because even when you feel that everyone has given up on you, there is still that something; that something intangible to fall back on, that something that will not and never abandon you. even if you are atheist or only pray to the God of hardwork, it still helps to be spiritual cos here the advice you would get is to just suck it up nancy, go out there and make it happen! and if you do have a God, there is "maybe God has other plans for you" which works like 99% of the time

back to the show, it also teaches one about the importance to your attitude to life. is your glass half empty or half full? phil (the character played by bill murray) is stuck in groundhog day and basically mucks around for a thousand years until he gets it right and becomes a better person and breaks whatever spell that has been holding him there. in the film, he gets so fed up being stuck in the same day, getting depressed and lonely and so he kills himself, in many many ways. since this show is about perspective, i think he was actually lucky to be stuck there. i mean, he gets an infinite number of tries to get it right, and when he does, he has in effect only used up one day. how awesome is that? (plus he gets to learn piano and ice sculpting and card tricks all for free) we on the other hand, are not so lucky. who is going to stop the world for us until we behave with the right attitude towards life?

and just to add, it is all very nice to talk about how good the show is but a completely different thing to effect this change into your everyday life. totally totally much more difficult.

i have been going through a crisis of late. well, it was really a holiday until school started and only then did it become a crisis. and so this show really came at the right time for me. in my previous posts, i have always tried to find a "better side" to things but i have just been unable to so far. i suppose the show gave me the energy to go on, for i somehow have managed to find a better side of things.

for one, i am lucky that i dont have to provide for my family else we all would have starved to death by now.

i am very grateful for the support from my parents and friends

i am learning from each experience, however slow and painful it may be (i am always wary of people who speak well and it is ironic i am trying to be like that)

and as they always say, in times of crisis you can always see who helps you and who doesnt, or just gives some piss ass advice. it sure hurts when people dont believe in you. it either means they dont give a shit and/or really look down on me. of course i am guilty of the same thing, but i try not to, since i do believe we are all equal, in the sense that if you are better than me in one thing i will be better than you in another.

i also think that its impt to have work life balance, because i want to be there for my friends when they go through something similar, and not be still stuck at the office working OT at night. it is so because one of my friends happens to be very free and so dispenses good advice reguarly :)

anyway back to the show, i got rather curious about one part where he goes around saving people's lives. i mean, if the day repeats itself, wouldnt such an act be futile? or is it just a human instinct to do it if you can, regardless of the outcome? haha. oh and i thought the piano part was fantastic so does anyone want to teach me?
