i realized on friday that Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh was in Singapore leading a retreat! if only i knew of it earlier.. i had previously read his discourse on the Heart Sutra and he makes it so simple to understand. and somehow after reading it i just felt happy
anyway thanks to the wonders of technology i managed to catch two of his talks on live webcast, something i found out i couldnt do in sch on the first lesson of 1505. i even missed football just to watch it, quite the opposite of what happens in sch really
his teachings are really simple, the beauty is that there isnt any dogma involved, so anyone can practice, no wonder what faith you subscribe to. just one word, mindfulness. in fact, its so simple i hardly think its zen haha
being mindful rids one of all negative emotion, no matter how badly your day has sucked so far, as long as you are in the now, as long as you are aware of that, all that has previously happened doesnt matter
mindfulness is being in the now.. loving the people around you involves being there in the now for them, appreciating when they are for you, and being there esp when they need you.
mindfulness helps us to be happy now, instead of chasing dreams of the future
there are so many ways to apply it i cant do it all
