even though i meet many people in my workplace who are clever, i am sorry to say that these are not the type of smart people who impress me the most. this is however just a personal preference; since my secondary loves are actually computer games and football. hence, the smart people who i have most respect for are the great tacticians of strategies. (this also extends to smarts like Montgomery and Zhu Ge Liang as well)
Strategy games (only the balanced ones) offer a great platform to test your macro and micro skills. Not only must you have a plan of attack, you must be able to change your strategy to counter that of your opponent, all while clocking crazy APM to outmanoeuvre their troops. The same holds true for the beautiful game, football. Individual skill can only get you so far in a team game. If your teammates do not hold the line or provide support, you will be surely doomed. It thrills me to no end to read of teams with average players that work hard and work well together, beating a team of overly paid superstars.
Being able to analyze such situations may come naturally to some people; they do not need to learn and yet will know what to do in different scenarios. Not having a football brain is one of my biggest regrets in life, but that only adds to my level of fascination when I find out how a change in formation can easily turn a game around.
I hope to be able to continue to study the art of strategy and become a "smart" one day...
