Probiotics and keeping healthy

Took some time to post this but felt it was still necessary so i can remember the learning points.

A few weeks ago, i got a bad case of food poisoning and was out of it for almost a week, with constant diarrhea and stomach pain. For some reason, the doctor did not prescribe probiotics and on Day One, i actually took some from the kids, which i suspect helped to alleviate some of the symptoms.

On Day Four, i went to the A&E as i could not sleep due to the cramps and pain. Was given injections for the pain and took blood for testing. By the time the test results were out, the medication had worn off and the pain was back. Nonetheless, there wasnt much to be done, and the only additional medication I was given were probiotics. The final bill came up to a whooping $700, and i would have soiled my pants there and then if there was any shit left.

Anyway, the probiotics seemed to be what I really needed, and I was feeling much better by Day Six. Hence, the learning points are:

1. Keep healthy, as the cost of medical treatment is so high. I am now taking probiotics daily, which hopefully can prevent a recurrence for many years.

2. Get accident insurance, which can help defray some of these expenses.

3. Visit government clinics/hospitals where possible. Due to bad timing, I visited a private hospital out of habit but was not covered this time around.
